Refilling Your Child's Prescriptions

Ideally, prescription refills are best handled at your child's regularly scheduled office visit. At this time, we are able to review with you proper dosages and any potential problems. With this in mind, we are requesting that you bring all of your child's current prescription medications, including vitamins and supplements, to each routine appointment. In this way we can verify your child's medications and coordinate refills.

Hopefully this action will help eliminate the many phone calls for refills that should have been handled at the last office visit. Remember too that some medications require laboratory monitoring, and again, this is best documented during your child's office visit.

One final request is that you make every effort to schedule your child's follow-up appointment at the time of the office visit. This will prevent you from having to call the office at the last minute for an urgent refill because you have run out of medicine. Optimal care requires teamwork and your cooperation.

Referrals

Many insurance companies require you to be seen by your primary care physician before obtaining a referral. If a referral is necessary, it is the patient's responsibility to notify our office at least 72 hours in advance of your child's appointment. Same day referrals will only be done in cases of emergencies.

Obtaining Medical Records

Medical records are confidential. We will not release information about your child's care to anyone, including other family members, without a signed release. For copies of medical records to the individual patient, the processing fee is $10.00 and $.50 a page for the first 50 pages and $.25 per page thereafter. Virginia Code 8.01-413a. Please allow 2 weeks to process these requests.

Copies of medical records to attorneys, insurance companies, or other third parties will be subject to reasonable fees.
